“It’s no fun”: Eric Pickles, Chairman of the Conservative Party

Eric Pickles’ bleating performance on BBC Question Time a few weeks ago sums up the hard-done-by attitude of many MPs – in all parties – to the current expenses scandals.  This video intercuts Pickles with the famous Yorkshiremen sketch performed by the Monty Python team, trying to outdo each other with absurd tales of their hard early lives. The British public are right to be angry and reform is urgently needed to the expenses system to root out the abuses which have brought us to this sorry spectacle. MPs have to stop saying they acted “within the rules”, acknowledge they were wrong and allow the rotten rules to be changed and independently scrutinised.

One response to ““It’s no fun”: Eric Pickles, Chairman of the Conservative Party

  1. The expenses debacle is an opportunity – but it is minor compared to the desperate need to get PR – without which we will always be ruled by around 35% who feel no need to be responsive to the electorate.
